In addition to scheduled programs, you’ll always find informal, drop-in events and activities at ImaginOn. Anything can happen - you might stumble upon friendly video game competitions or animation in Studio i, an impromptu performance or costumes to try on in the lobby, or a puppet show in Spangler Library. There’s always something new to discover!
Tickets for Children’s Theatre productions are available in the Box Office at ImaginOn, Monday-Friday, 10am – 5pm, and 1 hour before weekend and evening showtimes. The Box Office telephone number is 704-973-2828.
The Children’s Theatre of Charlotte offers classes for all ages, from preschoolers through high school students. Classes are taught by professional theatre artists with extensive experience as instructors, performers, directors and playwrights – and always, the ability to inspire and motivate young people.
The Spangler Library on the first floor offers books, media, and resources for children from birth through 5th grade. Special collections and resources for parents, teachers and caregivers are also an important part of ImaginOn’s mission. Staff members with expertise in early literacy, child development, and children’s and teen literature are always available to help find just the right book, resource, or information for all library visitors.

This series of programs is held every Tuesday at 2 PM for school aged children. Registration is required and space fills up fast so come and see what you can get to know at ImaginOn.
Time Warner Cable Tech Central is a vibrant, one-stop source for all things technology! We’ve got over 30 PC’s, 4 Mac’s, a computer classroom, impromptu tech demonstrations, a multimedia production studio (Studio i), and a wide variety of activities for teens, children, and adults accompanied by a child.
Express yourself in Studio i through both animated and live action videos, and combinations of the two. Gain visual literacy skills while trying out:
blue screen technology
stop-motion animation
paper cut-out animation
claymation
shadow puppet animation
digital music production
Live action digital videos, such as music videos, humorous interpretations and family video logs are just some of what can be created in Studio i.
Studio i has the tools needed for each step in the production process, including: shooting, editing and sound mixing. Completed videos can be burned to DVD or shown over the web.
New At ImaginOn: A Sound Recording Booth! (The Sound Booth will be unavailable for use in February. We look forward to reopening this feature in March.)
Recording at ImaginOn just got a little...well, quieter! We are pleased to have added a foam-walled sound booth to Studio-i, so movie-makers and musicians alike can record without interference from other sounds in the room. The booth not only provides sound insulation, it also provides better sound quality output than the room alone. The booth was purchased in part with funding from the Collaborative Summer Library Program (CSLP) (www.cslpreads.org/) which promoted a teen summer reading video created by teens in Studio i .
Making Movies on the Road
If you can't get to Studio-i, look for movie-making opportunities at your local branch! The ReadyANIMATOR (www.readyanimator.com/) travels to other branches within PLCMC as well as organizations in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg community for the purpose of bringing stories to life through music and animation. The Macintosh software on the station includes iMovie, I Can Animate, and GarageBand3. Call your branch to find out when the ReadyANIMATOR will be near you!
Interns are needed to work at Studio i:
(These are unpaid, volunteer positions)
Ages: 9th grade through college. The qualities an intern needs are:
A strong interest in animation or live action video production.
Skills relating to video production and computers:
Understanding of basic principles of shooting and editing videos
Some knowledge of image editing programs like Photoshop
Experience with file management (creating and saving new files)
People skills:
Good communication skills, patience when working with novices
Reliability:
A track record of showing up on time and a method of transportation
The advantages of being an intern are:
Resume-building to help get into college or find a job
Gain experience in video production, editing, sound mixing, image manipulation, etc
Opportunity to use the equipment and software for their own projects while not assisting visitors
