ImaginOn Gift Shop's Final Days
It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to ImaginOn's Gift Shop. Due to the current economic environment, the Library and the Children's Theatre have decided to close the Gift Shop as of August 31. A closing sale has begun, with discounts of up to 60% off selected items. The inventory includes books, toys and games, apparel, and more. Sale prices are available for in-store purchases only; the shop is open Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The Shop's three employees will be reassigned to other Library positions.
ImaginOn Welcomes ReX
ReXThere's someone new - and large! - greeting visitors at ImaginOn's front door! Next time you come in, look up - our origami rhino and Pegasus have a new friend, ReX the dinosaur. ReX was a gift from the TeaReX coffeehouse, which recently closed its Charlotte store. All three origami pieces originally were featured at the Southeast Origami Festival, a Charlotte favorite for many years. Check out news of ReX's arrival in the Charlotte Observer and on the Smithsonian's dino blog.
A Hot New Ride!
Fire truckMany thanks to the Charlotte Mecklenburg Fire Department for the new climb-on fire truck in the StoryLab. The fire truck was originally enjoyed at the Charlotte Fire Museum, which recently closed. In the spirit of recycling, the much-loved fire truck has found a new home - and many new riders! - here at ImaginOn. Climb aboard!
Teens: Got Talent?
Take The Stage at ImaginOn!

Teen Volunteer Spotlight
KamariaKamaria is one of several teen volunteers working at ImaginOn this summer. At first, she was hesitant about working in Tech Central, but Kamaria has jumped right in! Tech Central staff enjoy teaching her about the programs and equipment, and her determination and thirst for knowledge have been amazing to watch. She's helped with the gaming corner, assisted with several programs, and even contributed to the Tech Central blog.

The teen summer volunteer program provides valuable work experience for teens, but it also provides a valuable experience for staff - in addition to the assistance they provide, working with teens reminds staff of the importance of our day-to-day interactions, and how much we learn from one another.

The Library is pleased to offer a systemwide teen volunteer program each summer. Applications are accepted in April for the following season.
