New hours for the summer!
The Library at ImaginOn will be operating under Summer Hours from July 5 - September 6. During this time, the Library is open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. We will resume Sunday hours on September 13.

Why Summer Hours?
The Library needed to reduce hours of operation to save money. The Library received less funding from Mecklenburg County this year due to the current economic situation.
Come One, Come All...Anytime!
ImaginOn is testing a new programming schedule this summer - built around YOU! The Schedule of daily activitiesnext time you visit, look for a daily activity board in the lobby - and you'll notice that activities for all ages are happening all day! Our new approach to programming ensures continuous programming on weekdays during peak hours, so there's always something special to do. Our new programs are short, flexible, and they take place in areas with open doors, so visitors can drop in and join an activity in progress. Check out a daily schedule online.

Summer activities are open for groups as well as individuals. To make a group reservation, please visit www.imaginon.org or call (704) 973-2782.

New Exhibits!
Friends School studentsImaginOn is thrilled to host two new exhibitions this summer. The first, Through Our Eyes: ImaginOn, a Close Look at a Green Building, is a collection of photographs of ImaginOn taken by kindergarten and first-grade students at the Friends School of Charlotte as part of a study of community and recycling. The students first displayed the photographs at school, and then remounted the exhibition at ImaginOn for more people to enjoy.

Sitting PrettyWe also welcome Sitting Pretty: A Celebration of Black Dolls for the summer. This exhibit features Dinah Johnson's doll collection. Dinah is a professor of children's literature at the University of South Carolina and is the author of several books, including Sitting Pretty, a collection of poems and photos of each of her dolls. Dinah gave a keynote presentation to the Children's Literature Association Conference at ImaginOn on June 12, and she is generously sharing her dolls with us for the whole summer.

Authors in the First Ward!
Of The PeopleImaginOn is proud to honor some very talented fourth grade students from First Ward Elementary School. These students worked with ImaginOn staff members from both the Library and the Children's Theatre, as well as their own classroom and art teachers on a year-long path toward book publication. The product of their hard work, Of the People, marks the culmination of the First Ward Museum Magnet pilot program, funded by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Magnet Schools Office. The students and the adults who worked with them were recognized on June 9 at ImaginOn during the official book release ceremony and party, and the book and companion CD are now available in the ImaginOn Gift Shop.
International Day of Play
International Day of PlayImaginOn was extra playful on May 30! In celebration of the International Day of Play, ImaginOn partnered with Charlotte's International House for a day of games, performances, crafts and around-the-world fun. Great thanks to the MANY volunteers who made this very special day possible!
