Mix it Up
Teens are learning to be dj’s with hands-on training from industry professionals at ImaginOn! With These Hands Mix Academy is offering a ten week program to not only be better djs, but learn life lessons including building a business with their skills, if they so desire. Studio-i at ImaginOn is used on a daily basis by teens who want to record cd’s using GarageBand and ACID software, and this program will help them polish their skills. Stay tuned this spring, when the teens who have completed the program will show off their talents. For more information, please contact Tech Central at 704-973-2727.

The 6 R Movement is a an ongoing project within the Loft @ ImaginOn to help teens reduce waste and reuse unwanted or discarded materials from in and around Charlotte.
The goal is to keep recycling in mind with everything we do – from waste disposal to finding imaginative ways to use materials to create a new item or extend the life of an existing item. The 6R Movement is all about being eco-friendly - creating everyday objects from recycled materials including wood, metal, paper, and plastic in order to give something back to our world. We only get one planet, so we’d better take care of it! The Loft kicked off the 6R Movement with “Phone Book Redux” during Teen Read Week in October. These chairs and table are completely made of recycled phone books. Want to see more of the process? Go to http://www.flickr.com/photos/libraryloft.

Wizardry of Oz

ImaginOn’s Library Manager, Lois Kilkka, was recognized by the Library system this year with the first annual Carol B. Myers Leadership Award.
This award honors the leadership former deputy director Carol Myers provided to the Public Library of Charlotte & Mecklenburg County. It is given to one person whose leadership, dedicaton and desire have been instrumental in moving the Public Library of Charlotte & Mecklenburg County forward in achieving its goals. Here at ImaginOn, Lois is truly “the woman behind the curtain.” Her confident leadership and willingness to take risks and learn from all models has immeasurably strengthened the Library’s partnership with the Children’s Theatre of Charlotte and helped ImaginOn to grow.
"ImaginOn is comprised of two organizations, but we are all colleagues, constantly learning about and increasingly sharing in each other’s work."
Thank you, Lois, and congratulations!
