ImaginOn High-School Intern Program

Who can apply?
High-school internships are available for young people aged 17 and older who are enrolled as full-time students in a public, charter, private or home-school course of study.

What will ImaginOn high-school interns do? ImaginOn interns will work in some combination of the following areas, depending upon their education, interests and experience:

  • Visitor/Audience Services
  • Technology Education & Animation
  • Creative Programming for Children

High-school interns selected through the interview and screening process will be placed with a primary department in which their skills and the department needs correlate. Some high-school interns will split their time between departments. Other high-school interns will spend all their time in one department. Please see position descriptions.

What are the requirements?
High-school students are expected to have:

  • A strong work ethic and professional sense
  • Supportive recommendations from non-family members
  • Experience and/or strong interest in at least one of the internship areas
  • Understanding of and commitment to the ImaginOn mission
  • Ability to work with young people and/or patience in tutoring novices
  • A reliable transportation plan
  • Ability to commit to 15-20 hours per week for a 12-week internship session

What is the schedule?
Interns will work approximately 15-20 hours per week. Schedules will be determined to accommodate both the intern schedule and ImaginOn needs. Those unable to fulfill this time commitment should consider applying as a volunteer.

What are some important dates to remember?

  • Summer Intern Application Deadline: April 1
  • Summer Intern Start Date: Early June
  • Fall Intern Application Deadline: August 30
  • Fall Intern Start Date: Mid to Late September
  • Winter Intern Application Deadline: December 15
  • Winter Intern Start Date: Mid January

Intern interviews will be conducted as applications are received.

Can I earn course credit?
Yes. If you are a high-school or college student needing to fulfill specific internship requirements, please be sure to share them at the time of your application and interview. We are flexible, but need advance notice to be able to accommodate specific requests. Please make sure you bring all the requirements with you at the time of your interview. CMS high-school interns are welcome to apply.

Will I get paid?
You’ll earn invaluable experience. ImaginOn internships are unpaid, volunteer positions. However, you will be actively engaged in program development and implementation. This is not an office-support internship, it is a hands-on experience internship. Imagine what that can do for your resume as well as your future work with young people, the arts, literacy, literature, public service or some combination.

What about parking?
ImaginOn provides parking for volunteers and unpaid interns.
